In some jurisdictions, it is necessary for the dealer to inspect the condition of your heating oil tank on the first delivery. If this applies in your area, and you have a basement or other inside tank, the dealer will contact you before your first delivery to make arrangements to do your “first delivery inspection”. There is no cost for this one-time inspection.

Some big oil companies combine their price for heating oil with their mechanical services. Because we separate our other services from the price of your oil, you save and ONLY pay for the oil that you use. No Contract or gimmicks forcing you to pay more that what you need.

We offer a wide range of independent service technicians. Over our 20+ years of business we have established professional partnership with reliable and experienced service providers. You can choose from our freelance professionals or 24 hour service providers. From furnace/boiler repair to new furnace/boiler installation and maintenance we can recommnend a professional to you when you need it.

Diversified Petroleum Services has kept us warm for 18 years. To know that you can count on someone for that long is truly a blessing. Thank you John for being there for us. — Mary & Fred M. Waterbury, CT

  • What can I do if I ran out of oil?

    - Please read this section carefully to keep your family safe and secure:
    ▪ Make sure that all doors, windows and other openings are securely closed to retain as much heat as possible until your heating oil delivery is made.
    ▪ If you have a supplemental source of heat (wood stove, fireplace, space heater, etc.) you can use that to maintain the heat in your home. Be sure to operate these appliances safely and in accordance with the manufacture’s instructions.
    ▪ Make sure you are actually out of oil as your no-heat situation could be due to another problem. For example, it is possible that there is a blockage somewhere in your fuel line between your tank and your oil burner. In systems that are not regularly maintained, it is common for a blockage to occur in the filter, the strainer or the nozzle. Other problems can also occur that will cause your oil burner to operate improperly. If you have oil, but are not getting heat, contact a local heating contractor as soon as possible.

Call 203-879-6897 for delivery ASAP and specify emergency delivery service.

In an emergency, you can add diesel fuel to your heating oil tank until your heating oil delivery arrives. While diesel fuel is more expensive than heating oil, it'll burn safely in your heating oil burner. Usually 5 or 10 gallons will last for about a day, depending upon the temperature and the size of your home.

  • I have not heat but I'm pretty sure I have oil

You can start by checking the following: ▪ Check your thermostat to make sure it’s set high enough to call for heat. ▪ Make sure you have oil in your tank. ▪ Locate the emergency shutoff switch, usually located near the basement steps or next to your heating system. Make sure the switch is in the "ON" position. ▪ Sometimes a simple system reset is all that’s needed. Locate your heating system’s burner and press the red reset button ONCE (and only ONCE) and listen for the system to start up. ▪ Check for any blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers in your electrical supply panel. A breaker switch is tripped if it is moved slightly from the ON position.

Call us if you have an emergency at 203-879-6897. We’re happy to troubleshoot the problem for you and get your system back up and running.

  • What is a “Prime & Start”?

If you have run out of oil, you likely need a Prime & Start to get the air out of your fuel line so that your burner can re-light.

All our drivers are trained to perform a “Prime & Starts” for you at no extra charge at the time of your oil delivery.

  • Getting started with oil heat in your new home

First, congratulations on your new home!
If your new house has an oil furnace or a boiler, here are some important things to know: ▪ Heating oil is one of the most cost-effective, efficient ways to heat your home. ▪ Oil heat systems are safe and non-explosive.

In some jurisdictions, it is necessary for the dealer to inspect the condition of your heating oil tank on the first delivery only. If this applies in your area, and you have a basement or other inside tank, the dealer will contact you before your first delivery to make arrangements to do your “first delivery inspection”. There is no cost for this one-time inspection.

An important heating checklist for new homeowners: ▪ Determine if you have a furnace or a boiler. (A furnace heats air, then circulates the air through ducts or vents to warm the home. A boiler heats water, then circulates water or steam through pipes in a radiator or baseboard to warm the home.) ▪ Determine if you use oil for both heat and hot water. If your tank has a fuel gauge, check it to see how much oil you have. If you have less than a quarter of a tank, you should call for an oil delivery. ▪ Find the emergency switch, which will have a red faceplate. The switch is usually at the top of the cellar stairway. Make sure it is turned on. ▪ We can do all of the above for you.
